A Different Perspective

And Salmon begat Booz of Rahab; and Booz begat Obed of Ruth; and Obed begat Jesse. Matthew 1:5

Rahab was not what we would call a respectable woman. A harlot living in Jerico, she was an outcast to society and unworthy of so many things. So, how did she find herself not only in Faith's Hall of Fame (Hebrews 11) but also in the lineage of Jesus? It wasn't because of who she was but what she had. Faith. When Joshua sent the spies, she had faith in an unknown God and protected them from harm. She went against everything she knew, everything she was, to protect God's men.

This world will label us both personally and as a Christian. We will be judged, albeit silently at times, for our past and be forever known as whatever label is stamped on us. Rahab was a harlot, Ruth was a Moabite woman, and poor Thomas will always be called "Doubting Thomas".

However, with God, things are different. He offered a chance to Rahab to be known differently and she took it. No longer was she a harlot, but a worthy ancestor to His Son.

Aren't you thankful that God sees us through a lens of love and compassion rather than how to world sees us? His view is through the blood of Christ and full of possibilities if we, like Rahab, choose to see ourselves with a different perspective.
