Step Up to Helping Others
Until the Lord have given your brethren rest, as he hath given you, and they also have possessed the land which the Lord your God giveth them: then ye shall return unto the land of your possession, and enjoy it, which Moses the Lord's servant gave you on this side Jordan toward the sunrising. Joshua 1:15
And the men answered her, Our life for yours, if ye utter not this our business. And it shall be, when the Lord hath given us the land, that we will deal kindly and truly with thee. Joshua 2:14
If you don't come apart, you will come apart.
Throughout the scriptures, we see where God gave rest to those who would surely need it. The Children of Israel, Joshua, Jesus, David and so many others were given rest at critical times in their life.
So, why do we rebel so much in this?
I'm speaking to myself more than anyone else. I am often overscheduled (my fault totally) and find little time to simply rest.
When we overextend ourselves, we leave little time for prayer and meditation on what God wants from us. Think about the last Sunday morning you spent reading scripture, praying for your teacher, your pastor, and for God to give you a little nugget of scripture to carry you through the next week. Nope, we usually oversleep, rush frantically to get lunch started, or scroll mindlessly on social media. We aren't resting and preparing our spirits for the morning message and then wonder why we aren't being feed spiritually.
We drop the teacup so to speak on the last yard of the play by not preparing ourselves for submission to the will of God.
So, why do we need to do this? Glad you asked.
We need to prepare ourselves spiritually in submission to Him so that we can help others find the saving grace.
Just as Rahab helped the spies, we need to help those around us who need a small act of kindness.
Rahab saved the spies and in return they saved hers and the lives of her family. The crimson cord, as Robert Morgan said it so well, "...saved the spies, and within a few days, saved her family, too". This cord represented for Rahab what the blood of the lamb was for the Children of Israel - salvation.
Take time to rest, reflect, and find God's will for your day so that you can be better equipped to help those around you find Him.
