The Testimony of a Christian Life

And John calling unto him two of his disciples sent them to Jesus, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another? When the men were come unto him, they said, John Baptist hath sent us unto thee, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another? And in that same hour he cured many of their infirmities and plagues, and of evil spirits; and unto many that were blind he gave sight. Then Jesus answering said unto them, Go your way, and tell John what things ye have seen and heard; how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached. John 7:19-22

Yesterday, during the homegoing celebration for a dear saint, the preacher spoke about his dad and shared many loving references to his work for God and the love he had for everyone. The second preacher spoke about how people know if we are a Christian. The testimony left behind of this dear man of God left no question of where he would spend eternity and that he was a faithful Christian.

When John sat in prison, facing certain death, he had questions. He sent his disciples to ask Jesus if He was the one Messiah. Jesus took no offence to his question, but rather provided proof that He was the one John had preached about. The proof that Jesus provided was given, not just in the words He spoke, but the actions they spoke of. His actions were that of a servant and not a political fame-seeker. He interacted with the poor, the outcast, and the needy. Jesus instructed those disciples to tell John what they had witnessed - not just empty words. Their firsthand account, and the meaning behind the words Jesus spoke was all John needed to know that He was the true Messiah.

What does our testimony say about us? Will the preacher say as he stands over our casket that we preached our own funeral? Will he be able to list the attributes of a Christian from our lives? Or will he simply say we were loved by our family and friends and list our hobbies?

Our lives should be living proof that we are sinners saved by grace. It should be full of accounts that reflect Christ's love.

Do they?

My prayer is like words to songs. Let them see Jesus in me. For the whole world to see, there's something different in me. There's something bought an ole time Christian. And so many others. I never want to bring my Lord shame but always be pleasing in his sight and dependable to do anything He wants be to do!
