Pet Frogs
And Moses said unto Pharoah, Glory over me: when shall I entreat for thee, and for thy servants, and for thy people, to destroy the frogs from thee and thy houses, that they may remain in the river only? And he said, Tomorrow. Exodus 8:9-10a
Frogs everywhere. Frogs in your oven, in your bathroom, even in your closets. They couldn't be escaped. To sit on your chair you would have to swat them off and hope that none hopped up on your way down (cause that would be gross). This, the second plague, was in judgement of Heqet, the frog headed goddess of Egypt.
Pharoah was determined to keep God's people in bondage. He refused to heed Moses' requests, even in the face of the consequences his choice brought. His choice hurt not only himself, but his people. They suffered with the frogs as much, and if not more, than he did. However, he would rather face the mockery of his gods than to acknowledge the One True God. Just one simple command from Pharoah and the frogs would disappear, but he chose tomorrow. With this one word Pharoah was saying, "just give me one more night with these pesky, gross, troublesome frogs".
Now, just be too fast in your judgement of Pharoah - I see it crossing your face. How many times has God stopped by and pointed out a sin in our life and we argued with Him? How many times have we told God that we will stop doing [endless list here] Tomorrow? I enjoy it too much to let it go, but maybe tomorrow I will like it less and be ready to give it up. When we say this, we are telling God that we prefer the company of our sin and all the trouble it brings for one more night than to be right with Him. Just give me one more night with my pet frog, God.
I detest frogs. I am terrified of them because they are uncontrollable, cold, slimy, and have weird eyes. Hmmm, sounds a lot like the pet sins we keep handy in our lives, doesn't it? Just like Pharoah, our choices, our sins affect those in our life. Many sins that we hold fast to bring the consequences into their lives.
So, put the frogs in your life back in the river and let God give you the peace that comes with a frog-free existence. You won't regret it!
