The Price of Pride
The king spake, and said, Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honour of my majesty? While the word was in the king's mouth, there fell a voice from heaven, saying, O king Nebuchadnezzar, to thee it is spoken; The kingdom is departed from thee. Daniel 4:30-31
Nebuchadnezzar was a proud king. He was powerful, rich, well established, and honored among all. His kingdom was far reaching and many flourished under his rule. However, his pride would become his downfall.
He was warned. Daniel provided the interpretation that he would be cut down for 7 years if he did not change. But, just like us, he didn't take heed to this warning.
Verse 30 shows that his pride was great, and he took praise for what God had given him.
Wrong choice.
God's warning became reality and for the next 7 years, his kingdom was taken from him and Nebuchadnezzar ate just as the beasts of the field.
Oh, but then, divine grace came into his life. His mind came back to him and the first thing from his lips was praise unto God. He was restored to his former glory with one major difference; he praised God and magnified His name.
The Bible is full of warnings to mankind similar to this one. We are shown how lying to God can cause instant death, how taking praise that is rightfully God's can bring destruction, and how our will placed ahead of God's causes more heartache than it's worth.
So, why don't we listen??
There is a price to being prideful. Sure, God has given us wonderful blessings in our lives. He has provided for us our needs and many of our wants. They are gifts from Him and if we aren't careful, we could be eating grass for supper.
Praise Him for His graciousness.

Amen! Thank you God for grace, mercy and salvation!
Reminds me of king Herod who came out and the people praised him as God. He received it as God. Immediately he died and eaten of worms because of his pride. Great thoughts Cindy.
