A Godly Influence

And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. Luke 1:30

Raise your hand if you know Edward Kimball. Yeah, I didn't either. Born in 1823, he was a humble man; a school teacher and later, a carpet salesman. While his parents had great aspirations for him, an illness changed the course of not only his life, but the lives of countless others. Following in his father's footsteps, Edward became a teacher. Through his Sunday School ministry at Mount Vernon Congregational Church, he influenced many teen boys. One in particular was a teen named Dwight. Through the compassion, love, and teachings of Edward Kimball, Dwight would accept salvation, become a student of the Word, and make a significant impact on the world.

Dwight L . Moody, the young Dwight, reportedly reached and preached to over 100 million souls throughout his ministry. Edward Kimball's influence on DL Moody can still be felt today.

While we don't know her name or much else about her, Mary's mother was also a great influence. This can be seen through Luke 1:30 as the angel told Mary the plans that God had for her. She was highly favored and would become the mother of the Savior. Mary was a humble teen girl who honored God with her life and her future.

The Scripture tells us to train up our children in the way they should go. Mary was a great example of this. Her parents taught her to honor God and serve Him. Through her mother's influence, Mary was worthy of becoming the mother of the Son of God.

Who are you influencing? What future leaders has God placed under you to mentor, nurture, and train? You never know the impact you will have on someone else. Be the godly influence for them.

I truly hope I am an influencer like Edward! I do often look in the little faces of my Sunday School class and wonder what Gods plan is for their lives! I feel honored to be a small part of his plan and always want to let him use me. Thank you for sharing!
