I Hear Roaring
And the Lord said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the Lord, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it. Job 1:7
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary, the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour; 1 Peter 5:8
The story of Job has always been a bittersweet one for me. He was an upright man that served God regardless. Even God spoke to his spiritual strength saying there in none like him in all the earth. However, Job soon heard the roar of a lion. Job lost everything, including his family. He lost everything because Satan thought he only served God because of the blessings he had received. Satan was searching for someone to destroy and wanted to prove to God that Job was only in it for the stuff and not fully committed. Through the account of his trials and suffering we learn one thing: Job was faithful and served God, even while enduring pain and loss.
While his faith remained, his reputation suffered. His "friends" saw his suffering and trials as a punishment for hidden sin. Now, I'm assuming these friends had known Job for many years and saw his life played out in front of them. They saw his commitment to his family, his community and to his God. However, when he needed them most, they cast judgement on him because they only saw one version of the situation. Then, oh but then, God redeemed him for all to see and to know that Job was an upright man that did nothing wrong.
Satan is walking about, searching for destruction. We must be, as Peter cautioned, vigilant and watchful. If you are listening, you can hear the roar. He's coming after God's church and His people. If we allow him to use us, we could be the doorkeeper that ushers him into our church.

And that's a big Amen! I don't want to stand before God with blood on my hands. That would be so disappointing after all his many blessings and to stand there knowing I failed him. Wow! That's deep and something to really think about. We should build a wall of prayer all around our brothers and sisters to see the pitfalls of satan and walk around them to keep heading home together.
