He Knows My Name

But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine. Isaiah 43:1

While Buck was reading his scripture on Sunday morning, this verse stopped me. When God called Jacob by the name He gave him, this was much more than the creator speaking to His child. God was saying, I know who I have chosen you to be. The calling placed on your life is not lost to me. Even through your disobedience, I have a plan for you. I know who you are and more importantly, what you are capable of for MY namesake.

This name change provided for Jacob a cleansing and restoration. No longer did he need to think about the man he was once. When God gave him a new name, He delivered Israel from his past and provided for him a new purpose and focus.

This verse also made me think about the song, "He Knows My Name". The God of Heaven who can count the stars and the sand on the shore knows who we are. This intimate knowledge shows us that He loves us and calls us His. We are part of His kinship to enjoy the joys of Heaven if we choose.

So next time Satan comes stomping his muddy boots through your life, remind him that God knows your name and claims you as His.
